Seychelles Travel Guide

If you’re planning a trip to this tropical paradise, you’re in the right place! In this Seychelles travel guide, I’ll share everything you need to know – from top things to do and where to stay, to insider tips for an unforgettable experience. Let’s dive in!

Seychelles is that dreamy screensaver destination you’ve probably caught yourself staring at. Made up of 115 islands, the main trio steals the show – Mahé (the lively hub), Praslin (laid-back with world-famous beaches), and La Digue (where bikes reign).
It’s not all about beaches, the islands also offer some incredible trails for the more adventurours and nature lover ones. Whether hiking through dense jungles or discovering hidden waterfalls. It’s like paradise, but better – because it’s real.

It has always been one of my top destinations. But with flights consistently over €1000, that dream crashed faster than my Wi-Fi during a storm. Until… tadaaa! A price drop! I needed no convincing – Seychelles, here we go!

The absolute highlight of this trip? The water – warm, crystal clear, and perfect for snorkeling. It’s like swimming in an aquarium, surrounded by colorful fish and coral, with no worries in the world (except maybe sharks, hehe). Oh, and those iconic Seychelles boulders? They’re even more impressive in person – trust me.

One thing I wasn’t entirely prepared for… Seychelles is expensive. Like, “Do I really need lunch today?” expensive. But hey, we made it work by skipping the fancy resorts and restaurants and opting for cute guesthouses and take aways instead.

A heads-up – it’s a tropical island, so rain showers are part of the deal. Our day trip to La Digue? Completely hijacked by the weather. But tbh, it was still my favorite island. Those bikes made everything better!

🏝️

Mahé

Is the largest island in Seychelles and the vibrant heart of the archipelago. With its mix of lush green mountains, white sandy beaches, and bustling markets, Mahé offers something for everyone. It’s home to the capital city, Victoria, where you can explore local culture and history. Whether you’re looking to hike through tropical forests, relax by crystal-clear waters, or taste fresh local cuisine, Mahé is the perfect starting point for your Seychelles adventure.

Praslin

Praslin is a laid-back paradise known for its stunning beaches, including the world-famous Anse Lazio. It’s the second-largest island in Seychelles and offers a perfect balance of nature and relaxation. Home to the Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Praslin invites you to explore ancient palm forests and spot rare wildlife. With its peaceful ambiance and breathtaking scenery, Praslin is ideal for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.

La Digue

La Digue is the ultimate escape for those looking to experience island life at its most relaxed. Famous for its picturesque beaches, like Anse Source d’Argent, with its unique granite boulders and shallow waters, La Digue is all about slow-paced exploration. The island’s charm lies in its lack of cars, with bikes or ox carts as the main mode of transport. A haven for nature lovers and photographers, La Digue’s serene environment makes it a must-see destination in Seychelles.

Anse Severe
Great for snorkeling, especially in the late afternoon. Also one of the best spots to catch the sunset.

Yeah… the food… Overpriced and not that exciting.
We did splurge on dinner at Boardwalk once – quite nice for what we paid. But honestly, takeaways are the real heroes here – cheap, tasty, and no reservations needed!

Mahé
Mongyi Burger – Hands down, the best 🍔 you’ll have in Seychelles! They’re not on Google Maps, but you’ll find them in Victoria near a car park on Quincy Street. Just ask the locals – and hey, tell them I sent you!
Sun Coco Pizzeria – Best 🍕 in Mahé, trust me! I’ve tried a few (for research purposes, of course).

Praslin
Island Pizzeria Praslin – If you’re a basic bitch like me but feel like spicing things up (just a little), get the Mouianne 🍕! It keeps watering my mouth every time I think about it. It’s on the less exciting side of the island, but hey, it’s on the way to Anse Georgette!

💃🍸🔁

Hate to break it to you, but nightlife in Seychelles is… well, there isn’t. It’s a honeymoon haven, not Ibiza. But hey, don’t cry yet! I’ve got a few recommendations for you guys!

Mahé

The Boardwalk, in Eden Island, is the place to be. It’s a restaurant/bar that turns into a dance floor by night (Fridays and Saturdays are the best).
For beach vibes, check out The Boat House and Beach Shak at Beau Vallon – they often throw nice parties. Always check their Instagram to stay updated!

Praslin

Café des Arts – chilled, classy, and right by the beach.
To be honest, it’s the only spot I can recommend. Some nights they have a DJ, but even if they don’t, just go for sunset – you won’t regret it!

🏡

Mahé

We split our stay between Victoria and Anse Royale to experience both the north and south sides of the island, and be close to buses. If I could do it again, I’d stay in Beau Vallon for the northern part – it’s lively, close bars, restaurants, and the sunsets? Heaven.

Praslin

Best spot is in Anse Volbert (Cote d’Or) close to beaches, bars, restaurants, and those “sign-up-now-or-regret-it-after” boat tours.

La Digue

A day trip for us, but if your bank account isn’t crying, stay a night or two. Seriously.
La Passe is the place to be – close to bike rentals, ferries, and that laid-back island vibe that makes you forget what day it is.

💰
Friendly Tip

Skip the resorts that cost more than your flight. Guesthouses and eco-lodges keep things cozy, authentic, and leave you with enough cash for more important things. We booked our stays with booking.com and airbnb, you can always compare prices and check the reviews.
Ps: make sure you book a place with AC or a fan! The nights are pretty warm and humid. Thank me later.

⛵

BOAT TOURS!

Most of them are around €100 per person, but seriously – do it! We only booked this one through GetYourGuide, and no regrets at all. From Praslin, it took us to Curieuse and St. Pierre islands and then to a snorkeling spot where I wanted to stay forever (and I’m normaly scared of it). The first island is home to the friendliest giant turtles 🐢, and the second one? Easily the most beautiful cluster of rocks and trees I’ve ever seen! 🏝️

Seychelles is a tropical paradise, meaning it’s beautiful year-round, but here’s the breakdown:

☀️ April to May ☀️
&
☀️ October to November ☀️
The best time! Calm seas, warm weather, and perfect conditions for snorkeling and diving.

🌬️ June to September 🌬️
Windy season! The ocean can get rough, but it’s great for surfing and hiking, and temperatures are a bit cooler.

🌧️ December to March 🌧️
The hottest and most humid months, with a higher chance of rain. But hey, it’s never cold here!

If you want perfect beach and underwater conditions, April-May or October-November are your best bet! But if you find a good flight deal on the other months still consider to go!

🚌 🚙
Although the buses are cheap and people are usually kind enough to offer a ride, I strongly recommend renting a car. The bus schedule is tricky to figure out and not the most reliable. But if you’re at Victoria’s bus station, the staff there can help with info.
To travel by bus, you’ll need a card and load it with money. The fares are pretty affordable though – about 70 cents per ride, which is what we went for initially. You can load the card in most minimarkets and buy it at the bus station.

🚖
There are also locals who act like Ubers, and you can just call them to pick you up. However, it’s better to arrange a time in advance to make sure they’ll be available. They charge around €10-15 for a short trip. In Victoria, you’ll find them at the car park on Quincy Street.

⛴️🛩️
To travel between islands, you can either hop on a ferry or catch a domestic plane – faster and ideal if you get seasick. We chose the ferries, and the only thing I’ll say is… it feels like Antarctica in there! Bring a jacket.

📱
For data I recomend getting the SIM card at the airport, it’s cheaper than the eSIM. You’ll pay 20 eur for 15Gb. Just make sure everything works before you leave, and don’t expect high speeds.
